In 2018, 29 individuals, including 7 children, received support in the specialized services for support of victims of trafficking at the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (NCCTHB) in the cities of Sofia, Burgas and Varna. The services managed jointly with the non-governmental organizations SOS Foundation - Families at Risk and the Demetra Association provide the opportunity to accommodate adults and children immediately upon their return to the country in cases of cross-border traffic or, where necessary, in cases of internal traffic. According to the specific needs, humanitarian, psychological, social, and medical assistance and legal counseling are provided to the persons.
In the services reintegration programs for victims, including assistance in preparing documents, finding employment for adults, retraining courses and / or reintegration into the education system are provided. In 2018, 10 assisted persons were successfully integrated into the labor market. 2 of the victims were prepared for entry exams in universities and are currently attending Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski "and Burgas Free University.
Most of the victims are women, who have been involved in trafficking of persons for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
Since mid-2018, support has also been given to a man who has been exploited for labor for 17 years. Medical aid and psychological and social support have been provided to him in the service. In the meantime, he is also prepared to participate in criminal proceedings against the trafficker. During his stay in the shelter, the man has also started working.
All individuals, assisted in the NCCTHB's shelters, assist the investigators in detecting the crime.
Currently, 13 persons continue to receive support at the shelters.
In 2018, the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings has also received 97 alerts concerning victims of the crime “trafficking in human beings”.
The submitted reports concern 155 persons, from which 130 persons have been formally and informally identified as victims of the crime. 25 alerts are in the "Other" category and concern other and / or similar crimes - pornographic material, violated labor rights, threats on the Internet, suspicious job alerts, smuggling, domestic violence, et. al.
